Rudbeckia hirta 'Moreno'
Rudbeckia 'Moreno'
Type/Hardiness Annual, Half hardy
Flowering period Summer-early autumn
Height 12-18in/30-45cm
Light preference Full sun
Soil preference Any, fertile, free-draining
Sowing time/depth Feb-March, Shallow
Rich, mahogany-red petals fading to orange at the tips surround a dynamic, black cone. A lovely addition to the hot bed or in containers. Please note that it is difficult to completely isolate the seeds, so there may be some chaff. Just sow the contents of the pack as normal.
Sowing and/or growing instructions
Sow February-March, barely covering the seed with a little vermiculite or sifted compost (light is required for germination, which should take 2-3 weeks). Place in a propagator or sealed plastic bag at 68-77F/20-25C. Prick out seedlings into large modules or 3in pots and grow on under glass. Acclimatise to outdoor conditions and plant out when all danger of frost is past.
